Ibadan is a city located in western part of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It played a role of the center of the promotion of the education for the deaf in West and Central Africa.

History
In 1973, Andrew Foster set up the Christian Centre for the Deaf in Ibadan.
From 1976 to 1987, He hosted the teacher training courses for French-speaking African countries in the Centre every year. 161 trainees from 19 African countries participated in the courses and became teachers of the schools for the deaf in their countries.
As ASL (American Sign Language) was used in these courses, Ibadan is also the origin of the diffusion of ASL that widely spread on the continent of Africa.
