以前の会議と同じく、2013年の会議では、アジアにおける手話とろう教育に関する研究および実証的事実の共有促進を目指している。この会議は日本財団が出資している。手話とろう教育におけるろう者の参加を促進・奨励する日本財団と香港中文大学手語及聾人研究センターの趣旨により、会議ではすべての聴覚障害者の参加者の登録料を免除している。(2013年会のサイトより抜粋)

Same as the preceding conferences, the 2013 conference aims at promoting research and sharing of empirical findings related to Sign Linguistics and Deaf Education in Asia. This conference is sponsored by The Nippon Foundation. In line with the spirit of The Nippon Foundation and the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, that is to facilitate and encourage Deaf people's participation in sign language research and deaf education, the conference provides registration fee waivers to all Deaf participants. ■歴史

過去数十年の手話言語学研究により、我々は、音声言語に見られるすべての複雑性や表現力を兼ね備えた自然言語として手話言語の特性を解明できるようになってきた。2001年に開催された「アジアの手話言語学・ろう教育・ろう文化会議」はアジアにおける手話研究時代の幕開けを刻んだ。それから10年、この分野の進展と発展を評価するときが来た。この目的のために「アジア手話言語学・ろう教育会議」ではアジアの手話言語を調査する手話言語学者たちのためにフォーラムを設け、各々が調査する国や地域の手話言語学・手話言語研究の状況について情報交換できるように企画している。さらに、この会議では手話を含むろう教育のモデル開発についても検証することを目指している。(2010年会のサイトより抜粋)

Research in Sign Linguistics in the past several decades has enabled us to begin to unravel the properties of sign languages as natural languages, with all the complexity and expressive powers found in spoken languages. The "Conference on Sign Linguistics, Deaf Education and Deaf Culture in Asia", held in 2001, marked the beginning of an era of sign language research in Asia. Now, a decade later, it is time to take stock of the progress and the development of this field. Towards this end, the Conference on Sign Linguistics and Deaf Education in Asia aims at providing a forum for sign language researchers who work on Asian sign languages to share their research and to exchange information about the situation for sign linguistics and sign language research in their respective countries and regions. In addition, this conference aims at examining the development of models of deaf education in Asia that include sign language. (taken from 2010 conference website)

■手話の位置づけ

会議の公用語は、広東語、英語及び香港手話(HKSL)である。これらの公用語に加えて、アメリカ手話(ASL)との相互通訳は提供される。また、可能な場合は、アジアの手話言語との通訳も提供される。

The official languages of the conference will be Cantonese, English, and Hong Kong Sign Language (HKSL). In addition to these official languages, interpretation to and from American Sign Language (ASL) will be provided. Wherever possible, interpretation to and from Asian sign languages will also be provided.
